Lady Gaga: I Felt Like a Freak in High School

Lady Gaga is definitely a horse of a different color. But she didn’t take on her left-of-center style and music recently. Gaga says she’s felt like an outsider since her high school days, and it’s shaped her music today.

In an interview with Ellen Degeneres that airs on Friday, Gaga says she wasn’t exactly the popular girl in high school. "I want to create a space for my fans where they can feel free, and they can celebrate.” she says.

“I didn't fit in in high school, and I felt like a freak. So I like to create this atmosphere for my fans where they feel like they have a freak in me to hang out with, and they don't feel alone."

Gaga also recently talked with MTV about her VMA performance in which she appeared to act out her own death. She says it signified the demise of certain celebrities, and how we love to see it happen.

"But are we killing them or are they killing themselves? And do they love the fame and need it but not really want it? And why, when the cameras are there, do they shy away? But if the cameras were there for someone else, would they be jealous?" she said.

She also talked about her obsession with female celebrities who died young. She said, "I also remembered my obsession with young women when I was younger that died. Beautiful young actresses and poets. Marilyn Monroe , Judy Garland and Sylvia Plath , these young women that died that we never saw their death.

"We see the deaths of these other women, but we don't see their death. So I think I wanted to show that, and in my showing that, if you're wondering what I'm going to look like when I die, here it is."

Gaga is anything but mainstream, but we think that’s why everyone loves her so much!
